Snow Filled Day

by Carl on December 9th, 2009

Well it’s snowy here in downtown Montreal. It just hit us a little while ago and I hear some part of the US and Canada are also being bombarded. In fact Ontario got the preview before us. Sucks as now I am at work and can’t do the whole I can’t make it to work excuse. Makes for a quiet day when half the staff cannot come in.

In some news from my little corner of Canada, got the Scourgewar Epic Collection pack from my darling wife. Yup, looks like I sufficiently sucked up to get it. Score 1 for me! But I have to wait till Christmas so I can pretend I don’t know what she got me. Always a catch to these things. I also managed to get my Mage: The Awakening book in the mail. I bought some books for my wife but ends up I needed a few more dollars to make the free shipping so decided to lump this book in. I only have a few momemts to gloss over things. Very quick initial reaction is that it’s a well put together books. I love the cover of the book. The sections seem well organized and very easy to read. Only complaint is the typical introductory story / diary / comic that they tend to put in all their core books. WTF font is that? It’s supposed to be a note from one Mage to another. I know it’s supposed to be hand written but geez. I am for style but sometimes a little too much creativity to the point where I need to figure out if it’s bad spelling and figuring out what letters are what is just annoying and not enjoyable. It’s very minor even though I make it seem grande and it’s not a reflection of the rest of the book. Look forward to reading more.

I am eagerly looking forward to my card games to arrive from Fantasy Flight. I assume they will take some time but here is hoping it makes it by christmas. It looks like we’ll have reviews coming for Cthulhu CCG, A Game of Thrones CCG, Street Fighter Ultimate Fighting System and of course will try to get Exalted going so I can have a review on that.

Been talking with the staff about going back and playing some old RPG games such as Icewind Dale, Baldurs Gate, etc. I was into Baldurs Gate 1 and 2 but never finished any of them to completion. I got close on Baldurs Gate 1 but I apparently ran into a game breaking glitch and didn’t want to retread through a bunch of stuff again. But it does make for a got spotlight on older games. Take what we know and expect from games now and see how the classics hold up. I think we need more games like the IWD and BG series. Neverwinter Nights was indeed good but something was just lacking in my opinion. But hey let’s go back and see right?

We have also talked about doing some podcasting which is cool. We just need to find some topic and flesh out what we would like to cover. We’re pretty crazy when we get all together so it should be amusing to see our first foray into that media genre.

Well I’ve rambled long enough, back to the storm and watching people trudge through it.
