It’s not often that you hear of an acquisition in the RPG industry (outside of Acquisitions Incorporated anyway), but “not-quite-dead-completely” venerable company West End Games has been bought by Nocturnal Media. If you’re not familiar with either company, West End Games made the D6 System that many know from their excellent Star Wars RPG. Beyond that, their famous (in our circles) for things like Paranoia and Torg. Nocturnal Media is the company behind such classics as Pendragon.
It should be interesting to see what happens. First on the docket for this is for Nocturnal to publish a new edition of Web & Starship funded through a Kickstarter launching on April 19th. I’m personally not familiar with Web & Starship, myself, but it appears to be an interesting asymmetrical board game from 1984, created by veteran designer Greg Costikyan.
You can read more from the press release on Nocturnal’s website here.
Not only is RIFTS coming to Kickstarter, but now we’re getting a new edition of Unknown Armies! As of this writing, the game has 17 days left on its Kickstarter, but has already beaten its funding goal handily. Still, it’s a great way to get in on the ground floor, and Atlas Games’ previous Kickstarter for Feng Shui 2 went very well, so this should be a safe bet. It’s like the 90s are back, baby!

On April 26th, Pinnacle Entertainment Group will be launching a Kickstarter for a conversion of Palladium’s RIFTS setting to Savage Worlds. The Kickstarter will run until May 19th, at which point we will know whether there’s enough interest in RIFTS on another system. Personally, as someone who grew up playing Palladium games alongside AD&D 2e, but grew to understand that there were better systems than Palladium’s now-well-aged system, this is a welcome sight indeed. I’m very curious to see what the final product looks like, and it might very well be a good reason to return to the gonzo* world of RIFTS.

Modiphius Entertainment has a Kickstarter for the new Conan RPG. It’s already been funded and I cannot help but want to back it myself. I always wanted to get in on the Conan universe as I find it very interesting. Maybe now is the chance I have been waiting for.

Congratulations to Chaosium on their Call of Cthulhu 7th Ed Kickstarter. It raised a monstrous sum of $561,836. It’s good to see such support for a great system and setting. With this new found resurgence I do hope we see some epic sourcebooks and adventures to go along with all this.
Well I have been waiting for this one for eons. Finally the 7th edition of Call of Cthulhu is coming. I like some of the concepts I am hearing such as removing opposed rolls table and making to more streamlined. Also some rules will be optional plug-ins. In all a very streamlined game which to me is good. The stretch goals are kind of sparse. I am not sure if they were expecting not as much support as they thought they would be already the first of three is achieved. Myself I am looking at the $170 which includes a keepers book plus investigator books for your friends.

Well this is simply awesome news as you can now help Green Ronin get Freeport rolling with a gigantic book filled with everything you need and the bonuses as of now seem really cool and we all know more bonuses tend to get tacked on as the time ticks down so jump about if your a Freeport fan or just looking for an awesome setting.

For those interested in the new Mummy: The Curse game you can go and join the kickstarter campaign. The book is a reasonable price and you will have some nice benefits at the various reward tiers. Might hop on this one but would maybe like to know more on it. And wouldn’t it be nice if White Wolf could update thier site and promote these kickstarters themselves in 2013 😉

Studio 2 Publishing is looking at releasing a set of miniatures for Pinnacles Hell on Earth Reloaded. They are aiming that the miniatures are released at the same time as the rulebook. From what I can see, congrats! There are not many levels but the prices are reasonable enough. I always find the shipping a bit on the expensive side for us Canadian folks but sometimes you need to suck it up.

Well this is very cool. Mutants & Masterminds by Green Ronin has reached 10 years and now they are celebrating with a special edition book. It’s being kickstarted and has almost reached it’s goal within a day. The levels are very reasonable all considering and they have some interesting stretch goal. Hopefully they toss some extra swag in as well.
