You see Simon running towards the main entrance. A few people in the library look towards the entrance as well wondering what the commotion is about. An elderly man can be hear complaining how young people have no respect for anyone and that a library is supposed to be a place of peace.
Simon: You run out the entrance into the rain. You see Andrew running across the street towards the alley beside the National Bank. A woman is on her bottom on the wet sidewalk with a gentleman who stopped his cab to help her back up.
Grant & Henry: After going over the article together your attention is jolted by the sound of Simon yelling Andrew’s name.
As you move into the other aisle you don’t see Andrew but a shape run across at the end to the next aisle. As your eyes try to follow you notice Andrew or who you believe to be Andrew run out the main entrance.
Grant and Henry: you make you’re way around the library searching for whatever information you can find. Minutes seem to turn to hours and all was looking hopeless till you both come across in the news paper archives the article about the Sylvain Night raid.
Kidnap Victim Dies During Police Raid on Occult Ceremony
Pitche Gun Battle Ends in Multiple Deaths
Earlier today, proceedings of a secretive Boston groups known as the Sylvain Night were raided by local police. Led by Detective Sergeant Patrick Devlin of the Boston Police Department, the heavily armed force of men surrounded a wooded area several miles north of the city then closed in. Authorities had been unaware of the cult’s existence but were tipped off to their activities by a former member of the group.
When police arrived on the scene, members of the cult were apparently in the process of performing a ‘Black Magic Ritual’. This shocking rite was to include the brutal sacrifice of a young girl recently abducted from Boston’s China-Town. The kidnap victim was unfortunately killed during the course of the raid. According to Officer Devlin, who was himself slightly injured in the battle, twelve cult members were killed, two captured, and one believed escaped. The woman who escaped in thought to have been the leader of the cult and is still at large. The public is warned that she may be armed and should be considered dangerous. City Councilman Bradford Tibbins has assured the press that accusations of police brutality will be dealt with during the inquest scheduled for next week. Police have refused to divulge the identity of the decease and captured cultists pending further investigation.
Simon: Your browsing around various books trying to find anything but to no avail. As you make your way to yet another aisle and pull out a book on ancient civilizations and myths on the other side you are take my surprise to see the half face of what looks to be Andrew looking right back at you.
Mary snaps out of her reverie of the painting, remembering why she had come in the study. She quickly get the other letters and brings them back to the lounge.
OOC Is there anything else in the other letters that Mary missed the first time around?
Noticing that only Ben remains in the lounge she addresses him :
While I was in the lounge, I studied another painting and noticed that the scene depicted seemed strangely familiar to the sacrifices that the detective described. The scene seemed to take place int he forest bordering the city. Do you think it would be time wasted to visit the place?
Ben sifts thoroughly through the medicine cabinets and under the sink, but to his dismay doesn’t find anything to indicate any kind of prescription. Though he had thought it was a long shot anyway and isn’t too perturbed. He simply needs to let his friends know that there wasn’t anything to find. With that, he uses the facilities, washes his hands and returns to lounge. He’s surprised to find that his companions had disappeared. He quickly poked his head into the other rooms nearby and not finding them, decided he would simply sit down and finish his drink, perhaps they had stepped out momentarily, though he had no way of knowing where.
Simon caught slightly off guard that Grant would go to the library right away quickly grabbed his things and followed him out the door.
Grant nodded to Simon.
“Sarah is out at the moment, so you are welcome to wait until her return to question her, if you think she knows more than she’s told us. For research, however, there is no better time than the present. If you’d like to join me, you’re welcome to do so.”
And with that, he made his way to the front door of the house to leave.
Simon looked at Grant.
“I’ll help you looked up information on this cult at the library. You would think that if Andrew was taking heroin for some reason that Sarah would know of it. Yes he was being secretive as time progressed but surely not from the start. Perhaps we should talk to her first. I’m afraid a doctor would not tell us much do to the patient-Doctor confidentiality”
Ben perked up at Grant’s words.
“Yes! perhaps you’re right, I’m not sure why I didn’t think of it before, but perhaps it could yield something in the way of a lead. Perhaps now that Sarah is out of the house it may be a good time to do a little more snooping about the premises, though it irks me to do so.”
With that, Ben stood from his seat and though he wasn’t sure exactly for what reason he did it, perhaps a habit from his stage performances, he declared in a more clear and practised tone.
“The drink has forced me to answer the call of nature, I must use the lavatory. I will be back shortly.”
With that, he nodded to his companions in turn and left the room, proceeding to the upstairs washroom. Once there, he made use of the facilities, washed his hands and then proceeded to snoop about the medicine cabinet for any signs of medications or drugs of any sort that might shed some light on the situation.
Grant looked to Ben.
“There is also the Sylvan Night cult. I still can’t help but wonder if there’s a connection there, being that it was the title of one of Ms Garsetti’s paintings in the study.”
“We need to focus and we need to act. I don’t believe we have enough in the way of clues to do anything yet, so we need to gather more information. Sitting around here conjecturing for hours isn’t getting us any closer to finding out what happened to Andrew. So, based on the facts that Ben just listed, what leads do we have? I know that I’d like to get to a library and research more about Sylvan Night, whether it be the cult or the art. You mentioned heroin, Ben, I wonder if Andrew had a physician that might have some information for us?”
Ben looked up at Grant, his eyes dark and concerned, he didn’t even try to stop it from touching his voice as he spoke.
“You’re right Grant, this is so unlike Andrew that I can’t help but think he may have been influenced in some way. Perhaps he was drugged, I’ve heard that Heroin, though often prescribed by physicians can cause a person to be susceptible to suggestion. Knowing Andrew this almost seems the only possible explanation, assuming that he even was pursuing any sort of relationship with this Garsetti woman.”
He fairly spat the woman’s name, so disgusted was he with the idea that she would attempt to charm his good friend away from the lovely woman to whom he was married. Ben calmed himself and relaxed his fingers, which he had not realized were digging into the arms of the chair in which he was seated.
“But such thoughts are not conducive to a practical or truthful solution. We should focus on the facts.”
He began to run through the facts he was aware of as though ticking them off on some mental list.
“Fact one, Andrew is missing and no word has been received from him in several days.
Fact two, Andrew had recently been buying paintings from Ms Garsetti.
Fact three, Andrew had been secretive of late.
Fact four, whether real or imagined, Ms Garsetti wrote to Andrew as though he were a lover.”
Ben looked around to his companions still in the room, searchingly.
“Have I missed anything?”
